The BMW eRR battery-powered electric superbike concept shows what the S1000RR might become someday...

Today, the 200bhp BMW S1000RR is pretty much on top of the litre-class superbikes heap, but what about tomorrow? Or rather, what about a couple of years down the line, when fossil-fuel-power might be ready to give way to battery power? For that, BMW have the eRR, a concept bike created in collaboration with the Technical University of Munich. The eRR showcases the idea of an all-electric, battery-powered supersports BMW bike, which just might become reality in the years to come.

Stephan Schaller, Head of BMW Motorrad, says that in terms of acceleration from a standing start to about 50-60kph, the battery-powered BMW C evolution scooter can actually beat the 200bhp BMW S1000RR superbike. "We asked ourselves, what happens when combining a sport motorcycle and an electric drive? The experimental vehicle eRR brings zero emissions and electric drive on a new, more fascinating level," says Schaller.

That's all the detail that's available for now - BMW say that they will reveal the eRR's specs and technical details at a later date - probably at EICMA, we think. Stay tuned.
